Weekly English Tasks (plus daily reading)

Writing Task  Here is a reminder of the link for your two week writing task. I hope you are enjoying this challenge.  Remember to take time to check that each activity is done to the best of your ability before moving on to the next one. There is absolutely no rush as you have one more week to complete this task and produce a quality piece of work. Remember to check vocabulary, grammar, spelling and punctuation at each step. Good luck!

Spellings:
Investigate the spelling rule - i before e except after c but only when it rhymes with 'bee'

Write a list of words that use the digraph ie   (such as: thief, review) - how many can you find; how many different sounds does the digraph make? Can you group them?

Write a list of words where the digraph ei is used after the letter c  (such as: ceiling, receive) where the sound rhymes with 'bee' - can you find any exceptions? Do they rhyme with 'bee'?

List words where the digraph ei follows other consonants  (such as vein, weigh) what sound does the digraph make? Are there any exceptions?

Can you find any other words where the digraph ei  is used?

Challenge: Create a poster to explain this rule.

Weekly Wider Curriculum Tasks

Listen to, and read, the information, then complete these activities:
         1. Read the information carefully. Put yourself in the shoes of a Viking child and write a diary entry for one day in your life. Include information about other members of your family and their daily routine.
    2. Art Link -
Plan and draw a diagram to show how Viking society was organised – use clear labels,  colour and your artistic skills to produce a worthy piece of work showing figures, differences in dress, skills and Viking tools used by each level of society etc (see the example below)

Science -
As part of our Animals including Humans topic, you are expected to recognise the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the way our bodies function.
The Impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle
After watching the power point, discuss the scenarios on the last slide with an adult then choose one to write a rap that will persuade others to make the right choices. We look forward to reading (or listening to) them!

Forest School - Click on the link and choose an activity or two,  perhaps the children can lead the adults, as some of these activities are ones the children have done at school.
Forest School Activities

Picture News -
Story: An Italian architect designs a new way of living.
Question:  If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

🌟Mrs Burton's Ongoing Project - Who is your hero?🌟
When I was in primary school I did a project all about my hero. It took me weeks! I learned lots of facts, made a booklet, drew and cut out pictures, and I can still remember facts about Gary Winston Lineker now! So it's your turn, choose someone who you admire, learn all about them, then show what you know in whatever way you want e.g scrapbook, PowerPoint, poster. This should be a project you work on over the next few weeks rather than complete in 1 session.

I spotted this shelter on one of my walks around Brayton Barff this week - there were several of them dotted around. Has anyone else spotted something locally that impressed them enough to take a photograph? Has anyone created something they would like to share? Please email photos to:

  2. We’ve often seen these dens built around Brayton Barff when we go, there are a couple of good tree swings too if they’re still up. It’s a regular walk of ours with the dog, we even saw 2 grown ups running through the forest trying to catch Pokemon one time we went!! I grew up in Thorpe Willoughby so I used to go to those woods often, great fun sledging down tap hill but it wasn’t as smooth as it is now, used to go over jumps and fall out, some good memories!!
