Samantha's home learning

Samantha has been working hard on her geometry, looking closely at angles and the relationship between them.

Her Viking Boat work clearly shows the differences between the two boats and is superbly presented.

I love this poster because it shows various strategies to use to help us remember those tricky words to spell.

Great work Samantha! πŸ’™

Samantha has also organised her home learning!

How brilliant is this!

(I wouldn't dare show you my home workspace - it's far too messy!)

Eleanor's home learning

Further impressive work on -phobia spellings has been sent in by Eleanor.

Great that you used the internet to complete your investigation - what would we do without it!

One of the new ones here for me is the word 'phobophobia' - the fear of phobias! I do so love learning along with you!

Thank you Eleanor!

Eleanor and Ella have been working collaboratively on their Viking topic (it is wonderful to see so many siblings working well together).

Here are examples of their work - it looks like Ella is preparing for Year 6 under Eleanor's tutelage - great work Ella and Eleanor!

Raphael's home learning

Raphael has been investigating Viking  boats.

His information has been clearly set out in
paragraphs and he has listed key differences
in a table.

He went on to work with his brother to make a striking Viking shield. Great colour choices boys! Good collaborative skills on display and of fixing different materials together.

He also completed his French work for Mrs Mackintosh. Trent Class are certainly showing how much they enjoy their Modern Foreign Languages sessions.

Just look at this wonderful photograph of Raphael with his amazing Lego construction!

What a valiant effort Raphael to create something so impressive.

Great to see you exploring and problem solving whilst using your imagination!

Viking shield

To show his DT skills, Billy has designed and made a Viking
shield. He has joined materials
together and drawn a crossed swords
pattern to instil terror in his
opponent!

Well done Billy!

Chloe's home learning

Chloe has been busy working on her maths this week, learning more about about angles. She has also worked on the English Language task, finding out more about what  idioms are and how we use them.

She has used the current situation for her door design in her writing task.

For her Viking Ship investigation, Chloe has applied her computing skills to present her work, importing a picture and typing her information.

She has also sketched that famously out of control Viking warrior - a berserker, from which we get the word 'berserk' in English.

A super collection of work Chloe!

Summer term Week 3

Weekly Maths Tasks

Please click on the link below to access this week's daily maths activities. This week is further work on angles with some protractor use, as well as new learning on opposite angles.
(Please ensure you click on the Summer Term Week 1 (w/c 20 April) activity)
PLEASE NOTE: QUESTION 1 ON BOTH DAY 1 AND DAY 2 REQUIRES A PROTRACTOR - IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ONE AT HOME, LOOK AT THE ANSWERS TO HELP YOU GRASP THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN OPPOSITE ANGLES. TRY TO DO ALL OF THE OTHER QUESTIONS AS A PROTRACTOR IS NOT NEEDED FOR THESE. REMEMBER - IF IT SAYS 'WORK OUT' YOU CALCULATE AND NOT MEASURE!

Maths facts: Remember to practise your times tables on TT Rockstars - I would love to post more names for this on the blog this week! Also work on other maths facts such as number bonds on Hit the Button.

Weekly English Tasks (plus daily reading)

Writing Task  Here is a reminder of the link for your two week writing task. I hope you are enjoying this challenge.  Remember to take time to check that each activity is done to the best of your ability before moving on to the next one. There is absolutely no rush as you have one more week to complete this task and produce a quality piece of work. Remember to check vocabulary, grammar, spelling and punctuation at each step. Good luck!

Reading comprehension: choose the activity most suitable to you
(★ Easier ★★ Middle  ★★★ More challenging)
VE Day

Spellings: Statutory word list for Years 5 and 6
Continue your personal challenge in learning to spell all of the words on this list (if you would prefer to work on some of the words on the Year 3 and 4 list please do so - these spellings should be personal to you). Use some of the strategies worked on in class to help you: pyramid words, drawing an image around the word, drawing boxes around each letter to show the shape, look say cover write check etc. Try rainbow writing: write each letter in a different colour or write the whole word in one colour and overlay this in further colours.

Weekly Wider Curriculum Tasks

🌟Mrs Burton's Ongoing Project - Who is your hero?🌟
When I was in primary school I did a project all about my hero. It took me weeks! I learned lots of facts, made a booklet, drew and cut out pictures, and I can still remember facts about Gary Winston Lineker now! So it's your turn, choose someone who you admire, learn all about them, then show what you know in whatever way you want e.g scrapbook, PowerPoint, poster. This should be a project you work on over the next few weeks rather than complete in 1 session.

Thank you to those of you who are emailing some of your work. If you haven't sent anything in yet, I would love to see what you are doing. Please email photos of your efforts to:

Hello from Mrs Gay!

Mrs Gay has been following what everyone in Trent Class has been doing on our blog.

She has been very impressed with the amount of carefully considered work that has been posted, noticing the attention to detail and the wonderful presentation.

In addition, she has been excited to see the wide variety of creative and non-academic activities families have been doing, especially things that they haven't done before.

With this in mind, she is curious to see what new skills everyone has learned so far.

As inspiration to either share or learn a new a new skill, Mrs Gay has shared hers:

Can anyone guess what it is?

Mrs Gay has learned how to make a lanyard using paracord and she has put it to good use for her dog whistle, This means she can always find the whistle when she wants to do some dog training.

Please send pictures of your new skills for posting.

Outdoor cinema night

Billy and Charlie enjoyed an outdoor cinema night complete with BBQ and toasted marshmallows - looks like great fun!

Mrs Gay will be impressed to see your safe putting out of the camp fire Billy!

Millie's home learning

Here is a selection of Millie's English tasks - her writing build up and her spelling investigation. She is working through the writing task exactly as instructed and is doing a brilliant job. Looking forward to seeing the end product Millie!

Millie has also done an incredible amount of work on her maths. I am particularly pleased to see the use of jottings.
In science, she has compiled a list of scientific vocabulary as she has worked through the experiments. Also, she has found differences in the the two types of Viking boats and labelled the armour of her glamorous berserker!

Finally, Millie has worked hard for herself and Mrs Macintosh on her French.

Très bonne classe Trent pour votre impressionnant travail en français!

Zach's home learning

Zach has been doing some fantastic things, including a range of Viking activities, working through the exciting experiments and consolidating his knowledge and understanding of classifying plants.

Well done Zach - I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next week!

Samantha's home learning

Samantha continues to work hard and has sent in her beautifully presented work on Viking boats, showing their differences, and on her door design for her English writing.

She has also done a great job for Mrs Mackintosh on her French personal file.

Well done for remembering that French months aren't marked with a capital letter! Keep up the great work Samantha!

Etymology - word origins

Billy has been busy researching -phobia words, looking at the prefix and its origin as well as the meaning of the word itself.

He has compiled an impressive list, some of which are new to me! A current one to learn that Billy found is enochlophobia - most topical Billy!

He noticed that most of the prefixes originated from Greek, with a few from Latin.

Great work Billy ☺

Did anyone else find interesting -phobia words?
