Weekly English Tasks (plus daily reading)

Writing Task
As many of you have not yet completed your 'Monsterology' writing project, you will have little more more time to work on this, as we are doing in school too. Once you have completed it, move on to the task below.

For those of you who have completed your 'Monsterology' project, you are going to write a recount of your memories whilst at Carlton. Begin by working through each year group you have been here and bullet point the memories from that class - this will form your plan. The number of years you have been at Carlton will determine the number of paragraphs you will have. Look back on these times by talking to you friends as the talk will prompt further memories. (Make notes of your conversations if you need to.)

This week try to get your plan together - remember words and phrases NOT full sentences for this - then move on to drafting where you will begin to expand your points into full sentences. Think carefully about how you will introduce your recount - it need only be a couple of sentences. See the links below for help with organising your ideas and the features of a recount.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU TALK TO YOUR FRIENDS AS WE WOULD DO IN CLASS TO SHARE MEMORIES AND GET YOUR IDEAS GOING

Spellings: word endings  -ance -ant -ence -ent
These word endings often indicate whether a word is a noun or an adjective:
noun:       distance - At last, the ocean could be seen in the distance!
adjective: distant    - Is that distant boat an ocean liner or a cargo ship?
noun:       silence   -  In the corridor, there was an eerie silence...
adjective: silent      - Unsurprisingly, the silent corridor gave off an eerie atmosphere.

Activity: investigate these word endings and how they determine the word class. You could use the Year 5/6 spelling word list as a starting point then move on to a dictionary or even your reading book!

Weekly Wider Curriculum Tasks

Geography - Imaginary lines
Revision:
First jot down the names of the seven continents and five oceans. Then write the names of as many imaginary lines that you can remember.

Now watch the two short videos and read the information, ticking off the key words and names that you could remember and adding in those that you couldn't and think about the difference between a globe, map and atlas.

Next, compare two coastal locations by watching and listening carefully to another video - this is a very interesting activity as it compares the lives of two children a similar age to you.

Finally, work your way through the three activities to test your knowledge about the World you live in.

Science -

Revise inheritance by watching the clip and doing the quiz. Compile a list of characteristics you have inherited from your mum, then your dad. Think about whether any of these have also been inherited form your grandparents. Do your siblings have the same inherited characteristics?

Now think about things that are different about you from other members of your family - those that have not been inherited and what you will not be able to pass on to your offspring - the things that make you unique.

DT - Four week project (extended)
For those of you completing your DT project here is the example evaluation sheet to help you consider the things that you feel would improve your final product. Remember to be critical with an aim to upgrade.

If you did not have the tools or materials to actually build your project, think about how you could improve it. This may mean using a different material or more secure fixing or perhaps something more aesthetic like a change of colour or texture.
Well done everyone - please send in photos of your efforts.

RE - Christianity
Those of you still working on your project of Christianity in you local area, well done. Please send in pics of your work- this will be the last week.

For those who have completed this, research the Ten Commandments and write them out for display on this blog (if you haven't already done this), then think about our school rules: BE READY, BE SAFE, BE KIND. How do these help us to live better lives, both in school and out of school? Discuss the idea of beliefs, laws and rules with your family and the impact they have on our daily lives. What would life be like without them? There will be some fantastic talk going on around the dinner table this week!

Computing:
Visit this page and learn more about keeping safe when using the internet - it is very important that you know as much as possible about this. There are four activities to do and I guarantee you will enjoy them - so have fun!

Picture News -

Story: Many statues around the world have been questioned for their purpose and value in recent weeks.

Question: Why do we have statues?

DO SOME STARGAZING: SPOT A SHOOTING STAR; SPY A PLANET FROM YOUR GARDEN; EVERY NIGHT THERE IS A DIFFERENT STORY UP THERE!

Thank you to those of you who are emailing some of your work and activities to me. If you haven't sent anything in yet, I would love to see what you are doing. Please email photos to:
