Summer Term week 8

Weekly Maths Tasks

Please click on the link below to access this week's daily maths activities. This week is revision of fractions, decimals and percentages:
Weekly English Tasks (plus daily reading)

Writing Task This two week task is all about 'Monsterology' as you build up to writing an information text. There are several activities along the way as usual and you will be introduced to 'faction' - a coming together of fiction and facts. I am looking forward to reading your imaginative, yet fact based, texts splattered with wonderful vocabulary (get your dictionaries and thesauruses out)!

Spellings - Plurals
We have done a lot of work pluralising nouns, both in Pine Class and this year as revision. You will remember that most singular nouns are made plural by adding the suffix -s but there are many different rules depending on which letter the noun ends in.
Activity: revise/research the plural noun rules; what are they? How many are there? How many irregular nouns that don't follow any of the rules can you find - for example child - children? Aim to find at least ten rules (crazy I know, but that's why the English language is so fascinating) and list as many irregular examples as you can. A pluralisation poster would look amazing - and it would be big!
LEARN TO HAVE FUN WITH WORDS AND SPELLING!

Weekly Wider Curriculum Tasks

Geography -
This week we are starting our geography topic - Imaginary lines
First of all, think about what imaginary lines could refer to in relation to our world... jot down your ideas.
Imaginary lines
Watch the video, read the information then complete the quiz.
Show your understanding by drawing a globe and labelling it with everything you have just learned (or revised) about these lines.

Science -
What can you remember about Adaptation? This week we are revising what we learned in the first term. Once again, focus on the scientific terms and how they are spelled. Have a go at the challenge and quiz to test your knowledge. There are four activities to explore this topic in total - have fun as it's a great subject!

DT - Four week project
Continuing your DT project: now you have tested your ideas, it is time for building! Do you remember that wonderful morning building your yurts with your family? So, gather together your chosen materials and joining tools and fixings, and start building your design. Have fun - I cannot wait to see what your have created!
If you did not have the tools or materials to actually build your project, please send in photos of your designs, and prototype if you made one.

RE - Christianity
Keep working on your ongoing project of Christianity in you local area. If you live close to one of the churches, you could walk around the churchyard and see what information can be gathered from it - you will be surprised at the amount of religious information and local history there.
Otherwise, follow this link and learn about this Christian festival and show your understanding on the worksheet:

PSHCE - Taking care of our well-being
Building our resilience
The resilience ladder is a great tool for working towards a goal. The reason we really like it is because, before encouraging the child to work towards their goal, it encourages them to think about how they might feel along the way. Managing expectations for this and preparing for uncomfortable feelings is an important step in any challenging journey and can make the difference between quitting and carrying on. This ladder could be useful for any young people who are preparing to come back to school/start a new school and to go over their thoughts about this and how they can prepare.
Young Minds - How many positives activity
Young Minds have created a resource for schools, to help students think positively. Thinking negatively can become a habit which impacts our general mood and well-being. The simple and easy to understand worksheet can help students recognise their own positive features.

Picture News -
Story: One parent’s solution to helping her children manage money during the lockdown period was to buy a vending machine for the family!
Question: How should we learn to manage our money?

WHATEVER YOU DO, GET OUTDOORS AND HAVE FUN!

Thank you to those of you who are emailing some of your work and activities to me. If you haven't sent anything in yet, I would love to see what you are doing. Please email photos to:
